LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Stephen King's opinion may drive a stake through the heart of "Twilight" author, Stephenie Meyer.

In an interview with USA Weekend, the bestselling author compared Meyer with J.K. Rowling , the author of the Harry Potter series.

According to Stephen, "Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."

Meeooww!

While Stephen may not be a fan of Stephenie's writing, he understands the appeal of the series.

"People are attracted by the stories, by the pace and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it's very clear that she's writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It's exciting and it's thrilling and it's not particularly threatening because it's not overtly sexual."

He further explains, "A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that's a shorthand for all the feelings that they're not ready to deal with yet."

I thought this was such a funny article to read, seeing that I'm a student of the English language, Stephen king is my favorite author, and I actually love Twilight, hahaha! I have to agree with Stephen, the lady is the most predictable author ever, and her choices in what she spends her time writing about are different, but I think maybe he should look at it a little differently. He doesn't even write for the same audience she does. JK Rowling is a great author, but being a young woman, Twilight was much more captivating for me than Harry Potter was. Just because someone doesn't write for the same reasons as you doesn't make their writing any better or worse than yours. Sheesh. Obviously Twilight isn't The Shining but what is, really? I love everything that man has ever written, but I also really admire fantasy writers who can create an entire world on their own. When it comes to the romantic/high school scenes, yes it's pretty blah, but the back stories, the battle scenes, and even the descriptions of the werewolves were so captivating to me! I have never once felt nerdy for reading Twilight. It's funny because all of my friends who read it now made fun of me for reading it at first, hahaha. Now they all love it! I guess you really can't judge a book by it's cover or what someone else has to say about it.
